Balloon morning: a 4 a.m. alarm for a pastel sky

Planning a balloon shoot for soft light — and which lens to pack.

Written by Mira

Dozens of balloons in a pastel morning sky

Balloons go up faster than you think — mostly in the first 20 minutes after sunrise. Arrive half an hour early.

What I packed

  • 35mm for wide frames with people
  • 85mm for single balloons against the sky

Expose the sky a touch brighter than normal for pastel tones without heavy editing.
